The Yankees have sent RHP Chance Adams to the Royals via trade, the team announced. Kansas City is sending INF Cristian Perez in return.

Adams was the roster casualty for Gerrit Cole, being DFA'd on Wednesday after the blockbuster free agent signing became official.

Once the Yankees' top prospect in the organization, Adams couldn't make the most of his chances in the big leagues. He pitched in three relief appearances in 2018, where he let up six earned runs on eight hits including three homers for a 7.04 ERA. Last season, he had a 8.53 ERA over 25.1 innings.

With the Yankees bullpen stacked and their rotation lined up with Cole's addition as their ace, a spot for Adams on the 26-man roster this season would have been a very big longshot. Now he gets an opportunity with the Royals to crack their roster this upcoming season.
