The Yankees won their third straight game on Friday, shutting out the Tigers, 3-0, behind strong pitching from Gerrit Cole while Oswald Peraza and Aaron Judge both went deep.

Here are the takeaways...

-Cole was in prime form Friday night against the Tigers, overpowering the Detroit lineup, which never really posed much of a threat all game. He finished with six scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and two walks while striking out eight to improve to 4-2 on the season.

The Tigers did force the Yankees to get the bullpen warm with one out in the sixth after Cole allowed back-to-back singles to Kerry Carpenter and Matt Vierling, but he escaped the jam by getting Bligh Madris to ground out to short and getting Jace Jung looking at strike three with a high fastball on the outside corner of the plate.

After a rough outing against the Mets and missing a start due to "fatigue," Cole has now allowed just three earned runs over his last 17 innings pitched, spanning three starts.

-Peraza made his season debut after being recalled from Triple-A with Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the IL and the 24-year-old wasted no time making his presence felt. In his second at-bat of the game, Peraza crushed a first-pitch sweeper off Tigers southpaw Brant Hurter deep into the left field seats to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning.

-Judge, fresh off his 300th career home run, belted No. 301 in the eighth inning off of Hurter for his MLB-leading 44th home run of the season. Judge barreled up an inside sinker on a 2-2 count and launched the ball 431 feet over the center field wall to put the Bombers up 3-0.

-The Yankees got on the board early in the first inning. Gleyber Torres laced a single into center field and reached second base on an error from the Tigers’ Parker Meadows. Juan Soto and Giancarlo Stanton both walked to load the bases to set up a sac fly from Alex Verdugo.

-Jose Trevino returned from the IL on Friday and, while Austin Wells will see the majority of playing time behind the plate, the Yankees backup catcher had himself a nice game in his return. Trevino threw out a runner trying to steal second base in the fourth inning and went 1-for-3 at the plate with a walk and double. He even swiped a bag of his own – his first of the season – following a leadoff walk in the second inning.

-The Yankees bullpen -- a sore spot for much of the season -- managed to keep the shutout intact. Luke Weaver, Tommy Kahnle and Clay Holmes all threw scoreless frames to secure the 3-0 victory.
