The Yankees got back in the win column with a thriller at the Trop, taking down the Rays, 4-2.

Here are the takeaways...

- Gerrit Cole was dialed in from the get-go. At one point, he struck out six straight batters as well of nine of 11 (all 11 of which were retired in order). He did walk two batters in the fifth that put the lead run on base and got his pitch count up, but he struck out Rene Pinto to end the threat and keep his no-hitter in tact.

Cole had 93 pitches through six hitless innings, which surely didn’t make anything easy for Aaron Boone. A 10-pitch seventh inning essentially gave Cole the green light to go as long as it took, but he allowed a leadoff single to Isaac Paredes for the Rays’ first hit of the night. After a loud out to center field by Josh Lowe, Boone went with Clay Holmes for the five-out save.

But he is human -- kind of. Holmes allowed a leadoff double to pinch-hitter Francisco Mejia, putting the tying run at second base, and a high-chopper back to the mound by Yandy Diaz scored Paredes to cut the Yanks' lead in half. Manuel Margot then hit a ball 64.1 mph, but it was perfectly placed, as he reached first and scored Mejia, tying the game. It was the first earned run allowed by Holmes since Opening Day after 31.1 scoreless innings.

When Holmes wrapped up the eighth inning, it finalized Cole’s line: 7.1 innings, one earned, one hit, three walks, 12 strikeouts.

- In the ninth, Aaron Hicks laced an RBI triple off the top of the right field wall that gave the Yanks a 3-2 lead -- a play where Margot got hurt pretty badly crashing into the wall, and was carted off the field. Jose Trevino added a sac fly to make it a 4-2 lead.

- Since Holmes was already used, the Yanks went with Wandy Peralta to close things out. He induced a game-ending double play ball, but DJ LeMahieu couldn't field it cleanly at third base, and the winning run came to the plate with one out. However, he struck out Lowe looking, and Mejia flied out to left to end the thriller.

- It didn’t take long for Anthony Rizzo to continue his hot streak. After loud outs by LeMahieu and Aaron Judge, the red-hot lefty didn’t miss his pitch, as he took Shane McLanahan deep into right field for a no-doubt solo shot to give the Yanks a 1-0 lead in the first.

- Rizzo’s solo shot was the only run the Yanks scored off McLanahan, so surely, they were excited to see Ryan Thompson, who entered the night with a 6.43 ERA. On Thompson’s first pitch of the night, Gleyber Torres laced an opposite field double, and he stole third. Josh Donaldson and Hicks both struck out, but Trevino reached on an error by Ji-Man Choi, who dropped the tough throw from short, and Torres scored to make it a 2-0 game.

- Hicks has been much better as of late - he is hitting .321 (17-for-53) in his last 16 games.

- Giancarlo Stanton continued to slump. He is hitting .109 in his last 18 games after an 0-for-4 night.

- Monday night was the fourth time this season a Yankee took a no-hit bid into the seventh inning, and the second time Cole had done it this season.

- The Yankees are the first team to win 50 games this season. They are 50-17.
