The Yankees walk it off in the ninth inning to beat the Mariners, 5-4, at Yankee Stadium.>> Box score
Five takeaways from Tuesday's game…
1) DJ LeMahieu has been such an important player for the Yankees this season and he had a pinstripe moment in this one, hitting a walk-off single in the ninth inning. LeMahieu is riding a nine-game hitting streak and is now hitting .330 on the season.
2) Masahiro Tanaka was not great, not terrible, but certainly is not right despite a decent line - 6 1/3 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB and 4 K. Tanaka has been shying away from his signature split finger fastball, which has not been exceptionally sharp since the beginning of the season. Tanaka threw just nine splitters among his 95 pitches and one of those left the yard. If Tanaka is going to get on a dominant run he'll have to find that split finger fastball, which makes his other offerings that much more effective.
3) While Gio Urshela made a big error resulting in a Mariners run, his two-run homer in the ninth made up for it and tied the ballgame. Yankees manager Aaron Boone stated Urshela will get the most playing time at third base over Miguel Andujar, but that could change as the roster changes. Should it? If Urshela keeps hitting like this (he's batting .360) and -- mostly -- defending his position like a Gold Glove Award winner it would be hard to remove him from an everyday role.
4) Cameron Maybin, who scored the winning run, has reached base safely in each of his eight games since coming to the Yankees. Just another player in a long line of Yankees to step right into a role, Maybin is hitting .360 in 25 at-bats.
5) Gleyber Torres bumped his hitting streak to 12 straight games, which has boosted his average back up to .278 for the season.

What's next
The Yankees and Mariners continue their series on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. It will be Jonathan Loaisiga getting the spot start in place of James Paxton, while the Mariners will send Yusei Kikuchi to the mound.
