The Yankees weren't able to complete a three-game sweep as they lost to the Red Sox 8-5 on Sunday at Yankee Stadium. >> Box score

Six takeaways from Sunday's game

1) CC Sabathia was not fantastic, but did more than enough to keep the Yankees in the game, and probably provided more length (six innings) than they might have honestly believed they would receive. Sabathia allowed three runs (including two homers) and struck out eight batters as he came up short in his latest attempt to secure career win No. 250.

2) Clint Frazier is not a good outfielder. Frazier misplayed what should have been a single into a run-scoring error and the floodgates opened from there in the seventh inning. Frazier booted another ball in the inning and then had one get by him due to a poor route in the eighth inning. The Yankees might want his bat in the lineup, but his defense is a detriment at this point.

3) The Yankees' bullpen had thrown 24 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings until Luis Cessa was charged with five earned runs in his one-plus innings of work.

4) Luke Voit launched his 15th home run of the season in the Yankees' two-run fourth inning. Voit now owns a team-high 39 RBIs.

5) Gleyber Torres recorded two hits on the night, boosting his average to .293 for the season. Here's a reminder that Torres, who also drove in a run, is just 22 years old and continues to blossom as a hitter before our eyes.

6) The Yanks closed to within 8-5 with a three-run eighth inning, scoring runs on a balk, an RBI groundout and a sacrifice fly.
