The Yankees beat the Blue Jays 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Rogers Centre behind Masahiro Tanaka's strong performance. >> Box Score

Five takeaways from Sunday's game...

1) Masahiro Tanaka got his eighth win of the season after allowing three hits and striking out four over 8.0 innings. The Yankees have now won 10 out of the last 11 games that Tanaka starts, dating back to June 11 of this season. Tanaka bounced back in a big way after giving up five earned runs and 10 hits in 5.1 innings of work in his last start on August 5 against the Orioles.

2) Brett Gardner gave the Yankees the lead in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI double. He now has 18 doubles on the season through 346 at-bats, two doubles shy of what he had in 2018 with 530 at-bats.

3) The Yankees' bats were relatively quiet Sunday afternoon, registering only five hits. Aaron Judge, Gio Urshela, Brett Gardner and Austin Romine were all responsible for the hits, as Urshela was the only one with multiple hits.

4) Gelyber Torres went hit-less in his return to the team, as he was recovering from "core pain" the past few days. He left during the Yankees 9-4 win over the Orioles on Tuesday, August 6.

5) The Yankees relied on Aroldis Chapman to come in and seal the deal after pulling Tanaka one batter into the ninth inning. Chapman had a 13-pitch battle with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. before getting the rookie to ground into a double play. He then struck out Cavan Biggio to end the game, and now has 31 saves on the season.
