The Yankees fell to the A's 8-2 on Friday night at Yankee Stadium. >> Box Score
Four takeaways from Friday's game
1) CC Sabathia allowed just one run through three innings of work, with that one run coming on a Jurickson Profar second inning home run. But the veteran's night came to an end abruptly after 48 pitches. He was seen favoring his right knee in the third, and the Yankees pulled him due to right knee discomfort, the team announced later in the game. Sabathia has dealt with knee issues on and off this season, with Friday's start being his third since coming off the IL.
2) With Sabathia out of the game, Luis Cessa did a nice job to keep the A's in check. He pitched two scoreless innings before turning the ball over to Tommy Kahnle in the sixth. Kahnle was hit hard by the A's, allowing three earned runs on three hits, including a go-ahead two-run double from Profar.
3) Luke Voit made his return to the Yankees' lineup on Friday night. Batting out of the six-hole, Voit recorded a pair of hits in his first game back, finishing the night 2-4 with a run scored and a strikeout.
4) It was quiet night overall for the Yankees' bats. They were able to get runners on base, particularly in the third and fourth innings, but they had trouble finding that big hit or two to potentially break the game open. The Bombers left 14 runners on base, with Gregorius and Austin Romine leading the team with three LOBs each.
