The Yankees move to 10-10 on the season, clobbering four home runs to beat the Royals, 9-2, at Yankee Stadium.
Five takeaways from Saturday's game…
1) Masahiro Tanaka got back on track with an impressive seven-inning outing, allowing one run on four hits, walking three and striking out four. Tanaka's production continues to be a big facet for the Yankees with Luis Severino on the mend and the veteran right-hander has answered the call.
2) The Yankees hit four home runs in the game, but "the one that should have been' was ruled an out because of fan interference became a big talking point in the game. Gleyber Torres hit a ball to left field that Royal's left fielder Alex Gordon leaped to catch.
A fan reached over and interfered with the play. The replay ruling was automatic out because of the interference. If we're going to use replay, then the ump should be able to make a determination as to the probability of the catch. OR, build railings at the fence line that do not allow fans to reach into the field of play.
3) As if the Yankees have not dealt with enough injury problems, Aaron Judge left the game with an apparent injury to his left oblique, suffered while swinging through a line drive single in the sixth inning. The Yankees were hoping to get some players back on the West Coast trip, but losing Judge for any significant period of time would be the biggest blow of all to the club. There is not one single player on this club that can come close to replacing Judge, who is a dominant hitter and superior fielder.
4) Gio Urshela is quickly becoming an unsung hero for the Yankees. Urshela impressed in spring training and he's been fantastic at third base on the defensive side. Not only that, Urshela is getting hits, going 3-for-4 today, raising his batting average to .321.
5) Clint Frazier told everyone that he was ready to take over in the Yankees outfield and he is proving it. Frazier collected three more hits, including a double and his fifth home run of the season. Frazier is hitting .351 with 14 RBIs and with Judge's injury, he could be in line for an even longer stay in the outfield. Frazier has made the most of this opportunity and the Yankees will hope that the hot streak continues.
