Five takeaways from Tuesday's game…

1 ) James Paxton was absolutely electric tonight. It was the first time he went to the mound in pinstripes, and just unleashed on the opponent. Paxton surely wasn't tipping any pitches, throwing 110 on the night, 80 of which were four-seam fastballs. Those fastballs averaged 97 mph with the fastest topping out at 99.2 mph. Paxton's final line - 8 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 12 K - could not have come at a better time for the Yankees. The Yanks traded for Paxton with this kind of a performance in mind, and hopefully for New York he builds on it.

2 ) The Yankees' offense has yet to hit on all cylinders, but maybe tonight was a step in the right direction as all nine members of the starting lineup recorded at least one hit. The Yanks hit three home runs and scored eight runs on the night, tied for the second-most of the season.

3 ) When a team is looking for answers, they often come from the less renowned players. Tonight, that was Mike Tauchman. The 28-year-old outfielder drove in four runs, smacking a run-scoring double and his first MLB home run, a three-run homer that blew the game wide open.

4 ) Clint Frazier hit his fourth home run of the season, and now has 11 runs batted in across 12 games. Frazier is hitting .293 and he's been extremely cognizant of his approach to the opposite field and it's paying dividends. If he keeps up the production, it will be difficult to remove Frazier from the lineup whenever Aaron Hicks and Giancarlo Stanton return to the lineup.

5 ) Aaron Judge tallied two hits and drew a walk, bringing his average to .293 and his OPS to .942 on the season. Judge has yet to go on a home run binge (he has four homers this season), but he's hitting the ball with authority and with a quality approach, meaning the dingers will come.
