The Yankees began a weekend series in Milwaukee with a 7-6 loss to the Brewers on Friday night, snapping their four-game winning streak.

Here are some key takeaways…

- The Bombers got things going right away in the first inning against righty Adrian Houser. After an Aaron Judge infield single got the ball rolling, Josh Donaldson (sac fly), Isiah Kiner-Falefa (single) and Marwin Gonzalez (single) all drove in runs to put the Yanks up 3-0.

The Yankees added two more in the top of the second, as they loaded the bases before a would-be double-play ball off the bat of Donaldson was thrown away at first base, making it 5-0.

- Staked to a five-run lead before he even took the mound, Frankie Montas didn’t exactly take advantage of the early run support. He escaped a bases-loaded jam in the first inning, but then gave up a long three-run homer to Willy Adames in the second, as that New York lead was cut to two runs.

Montas pitched into the fourth inning, but his night came to an end after a one-out walk to Garrett Mitchell. Lucas Luetge entered out of the pen, and the Brewers pounced on him right away. A Christian Yelich single, Adames double, and Rowdy Tellez sac fly tied the game at 5-5. Luetge recorded just one out before getting pulled himself.

- Montas went just 3.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on four hits with two strikeouts and four walks. He threw 79 pitches with just 44 of them going for strikes in what was another less-than-stellar outing for Montas.

In eight starts as a Yankee, Montas has pitched to a 6.35 ERA with a WHIP of 1.54.

- The game stayed tied into the bottom of the eighth inning. After what was originally called a double-play ball was correctly overturned by replay, the Brewers had runners at the corners with two outs. Jonathan Loaisiga got Adames to hit a sharp grounder to short, but Kiner-Falefa couldn't handle the ball. IKF was charged with an error, and Milwaukee took a 6-5 lead into the ninth.

But the Yankees answered right back in the top of the ninth, as Donaldson got out in front of a Taylor Rogers slider but kept it barely fair, hitting the foul pole for a solo shot to tie the game. After Oswaldo Cabrera doubled and moved to third on a sac bunt, he was left stranded as Miguel Andujar and Kyle Higashioka couldn't bring him home.

Cabrera was on base five times, going 2-for-2 with three walks.

- In the bottom of the ninth, Hunter Renfroe led off with a double off of Clay Holmes, and the Brewers eventually loaded the bases. Mitchell then played hero, singling up the middle to give Milwaukee a 7-6 win.

- Judge was kept in the ballpark, going 2-for-4 with a walk, a strikeout and two runs scored.

- Domingo German made his first relief appearance of the season. The righty went 1.2 innings without allowing a run. He gave up one hit and struck out two Brewers with one walk.

- The Yankees had a couple of players leave the game in this one. Jose Trevino took a foul ball off his right knee and later left with what the team is calling a right knee contusion. Marwin Gonzalez also left the game due to illness.
