The Yankees used a six-run inning to come back and defeat the Athletics, 9-5, on Monday night.

Here are the takeaways from the game...

1) The Yankees offense the last two games had a hard time getting going, but that wasn't the case on Monday. In the first, Anthony Rizzo got the scoring going with a solo shot that landed in the second row in right-center.

Rizzo went 2-for-3 and was pinch-hit for by Matt Carpenter in the eighth inning after being hit by a pitch on the elbow.

2) Jordan Montgomery took the mound Monday and cruised through the first two innings, but in the third he lost the lead. Ramon Laureano hit a shot off the top of the left field wall with men on first and second to tie the game at one. Montgomery then gave up a double to Elvis Andrus with the bases loaded that cleared them. Montgomery then allowed an RBI single immediately after. The A’s ended the inning up 5-1.

Montgomery settled down to get through 6.2 innings, giving up five runs, six hits, one walk and striking out six on 97 pitches.

3) Giancarlo Stanton launched a home run in the fourth to bring the score to 5-2. Stanton's last five hits have all been home runs.

Aaron Judge got in on the action with a two-out RBI single in the fifth to score DJ LeMahieu -- who stole second to get into scoring position -- and cut the deficit to 5-3.

4) In the seventh, with the bases loaded, Stanton reached first after a catcher's interference -- catcher Sean Murphy's second of the inning -- that cut the deficit further to 5-4. Josh Donaldson then lined a double to left field to score Judge and Rizzo to give the Yankees a 6-5 lead.

Jose Trevino followed an Aaron Hicks fly out with a two-run double to give the Yankees an 8-5 lead. Marwin Gonzalez followed that with an RBI single. Six runs in the seventh inning gave the Yankees a commanding 9-5 lead.

5) After taking back the lead, Albert Abreu got the final seven outs to end the game, walking just one and striking out four.
