Jameson Taillon took a perfect game into the eighth inning as the Yankees won game two of Thursday’s doubleheader against the Angels, 2-1, to complete the three-game sweep.

- Taillon continued his string of great starts by retiring the Angels in order in the first inning, including getting Shohei Ohtani to drive a ball deep to center field but Aaron Hicks tracked it down against the wall. That may have been the hardest hit ball off of Taillon the whole game.

The Angels’ hitters rarely hit a ball thrown by Taillon into the outfield, and there were some great defensive plays from Isiah Kiner-Falefa. However, in the eighth inning Jared Walsh led off with a double off the glove of IKF up the middle to end his chance at history. Taillon would get the next two batters out, but Kurt Suzuki laced a single to left field to score the game's first run.

Taillon would get the final out in the eighth and leave possibly the best start of his career down 1-0. His final line was: 8 IP, 2H, 1 ER, 5 K on 101 pitches.

- The Yankees' offense did not help Taillon's effort, squandering chances to put up runs in multiple innings. In the second inning, a Miguel Andujar walk and IKF single led off the frame, but Hicks and Joey Gallo struck out before Kyle Higashioka grounded out weakly to end the threat.

They’d have another chance in the third inning. After a Marwin Gonzalez single and DJ LeMahieu walk to lead off, Aaron Judge and Gleyber Torres popped out before Andujar struck out to strand them.

- In the bottom of the eighth, it looked like the Yankees would squander another scoring chance. With the bases loaded and one out, Gallo struck out swinging on a 3-2 count, but Anthony Rizzo pinch-hit for Higashioka and singled up the middle to drive in two and give the Yankees the lead.

- Clay Holmes was called to get the save in the ninth and got the first two batters out before walking Ohtani in an eight-pitch at-bat, only the pitcher's third walk of the season. Holmes would then hit Mike Trout in the triceps to put the tying run on second. Walsh would get hit in the knee of his back leg on a 1-2 count to load the bases. Holmes got Luis Rengifo to ground out to IKF to secure the victory.

- The top of the Yankees lineup was ineffective on this night. LeMahieu, Judge and Torres went a combined 0-for-10 with two walks. They also left seven men on base. The team as a whole went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position, but a win is a win as the Yankees swept the Angels and improved their MLB-best record to 36-15.
