After Saturday night's 9-2 loss to the Nationals, the Yankees optioned OF Clint Frazier and RHP Ben Heller and sent them to their alternate training site.

Coming off a tough day for the Yankees' pitchers on the mound, New York will recall RHP Brooks Kriske and RHP Nick Nelson from the alternate site with hopes of better results in this shortened 60 game season, where every game really counts.

Frazier has made strides on offense, including hitting a big home run in the Yankees' first exhibition game against the Mets last week, but New York is just too stacked on the outfielder front to justify keeping him around.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone has spoken highly of Frazier's abilities on offense, but with the likes of Aaron Judge, Aaron Hicks and Brett Gardner starting for the club and Miguel Andujar, Mike Tauchman and Tyler Wade waiting in their stead, it's tough to keep Frazier on the roster when the team needs pitching help.

"Clint’s ready to be an impact player in this league, there’s no doubt in my mind. Just unfortunately for him, blocked right now with a lot of good outfielders," Boone said in a Zoom meeting prior to Sunday's game against the Nationals.

Heller was among the five pitchers to come out of the bullpen for the Yankees in Saturday's loss, and allowed a home run during his lone inning out.

Kriske and Nelson will see action for the first time on a major league level after being called up by the Yankees.
