The Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals 1-0 in Andrew Benintendi's debut in pinstripes on Thursday.

Here are the takeaways

- The Yankees got a strong outing from Jameson Taillon. The right-hander kept the Royals scoreless in his six innings of work allowing just four hits and striking out eight. Taillon has been struggling of late but was able to come through Thursday against the Royals. His ERA dropped to 3.72 on the season.

- Unfortunately for the Bronx Bombers, Brady Singer of the Royals had an even better outing. The 25-year-old threw seven shutout innings allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out 10. The Yanks have not had the offensive production that they've seen all season in the month of July. Singer kept them off balance the entire night.

- Ron Marinaccio came on after Taillon and was effective again. The rookie went two scoreless innings, striking out three without allowing a hit. Marinaccio is proving to be a big part of Aaron Boone's bullpen which is much needed given the loss of Michael King.

- Clay Holmes kept the game scoreless in the ninth as both the Royals and Yankees did not scratch across a singular run through eight and a half innings.

- Benintendi would lead off the bottom of the ninth with a flyout. In his Yankee debut, the left fielder was 0-4 with a strikeout. However, after Benintendi stepped up Aaron Judge, who blasted a walk-off solo home run into the bullpen in left center field. For Judge, it was his 39th homer of the season, which ended up giving the Bombers their 67th win of the year after their 1-0 victory over the Royals.
