The Yankees announced Thursday that catcher Jose Trevino is being reinstated from the IL after a brief rehab assignment.

Trevino, who was placed on the IL with a left quad strain while running the bases back in mid-July, will return to the team in time for the Yankees' three-game set against the Tigers in Detroit.

The 31-year-old backstop is slashing .244/.303/.714 with eight home runs and 27 RBI while splitting time with rookie Austin Wells this season. Before Trevino landed on the IL, he and Wells were splitting the games/at-bats in half, but with Wells hitting so well especially as the team's cleanup hitter, manager Aaron Boone said that the rookie's bat will continue to be in the lineup.

How that will look like is unclear.

To make room for Trevino, the Yankees optioned catcher Carlos Narvaez back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

In six games this season, Narvaez was 3-for-13 with two walks and six strikeouts.
