The 2020 MLB season is finally on its way, with the projected start date around July 24. In turn, predictions for division standings and World Series winners are abundant.
The Yankees were always coming into this year as serious World Series contenders, especially with the addition of a bonafide ace in Gerrit Cole. FanGraphs' ZiPS projection thinks they'll be on the right path to do so when viewing their division standings.
Over the 60-game season, FanGraphs has the Bombers finishing first in the AL East with a 37-23 record. The Tampa Bay Rays are close behind them at 35-25, so they could be securing one of the Wild Card spots. The Boston Red Sox come in third at an even 30-30.
It will be a pretty tough road for the Yankees considering their opponents are limited to their geographical area. That means 20 games against the NL East, which is loaded with the Nationals, Mets, Phillies and Braves. It does help, though, that many of their key injured players should be all set to go when Opening Day comes around.
However, DraftKings' latest World Series odds have the Yankees weathering that storm and using their powerhouse roster to contend for their 28th title. The Yankees have +400 odds, the second-best among MLB teams, with the Dodgers in front of them by a smidge at +375. Tampa also has some good odds, sixth-best at +1800 -- same as the reigning-champion Nationals.
