Infielder Oswald Peraza is about to take a big step forward on his road to recovery.
Appearing in his weekly spot with the Talkin’ Yanks podcast, manager Aaron Boone said that Peraza will begin throwing on Wednesday.
“Peraza starts throwing [Wednesday], actually,” Boone said. “So, he should start to build pretty quick form there."
On March 9, Boone announced that Peraza would be shut down for six-to-eight weeks with a subscapular strain in his right shoulder. Appearing in just three spring training games, Peraza reported some discomfort in his throwing shoulder and was eventually shut down.
Peraza, who turns 24 in June, has appeared in 70 games for the Yankees over the past two seasons, slashing .216/.298/.306 with three home runs, 11 doubles, 16 RBI and 23 runs scored.
But where Peraza really excels is on the defensive side, and with DJ LeMahieu on the IL with a bone bruise in his foot, having a versatile player like Peraza either in the starting nine or on the bench would be a big plus for the Bombers.
The initial diagnosis of six-to-eight weeks would see Peraza return some time in late April or early May.
