Will Warren pitched four strong innings but the Yankees' offense mustered just three hits as they fell to the Nationals, 3-0, on Saturday night.

The Yankees are now 10-4 in Grapefruit League play.

Here are the takeaways...

-Warren made his third spring start on Saturday and was effective.

He walked one but struck out two in his first inning of work. And after a 1-2-3 second and clean third, the young right-hander pitched into trouble in the fourth. Dylan Crews jumped on a first-pitch sweeper and deposited it for a single before Warren walked CJ Abrams on five pitches. Warren got a groundout that advanced the runners. An error by George Lombard Jr. loaded the bases before Brady House drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.

Warren got out of further trouble by striking out Andres Chaparro to end the inning.

That was the end of Warren's night after he tossed 50 pitches (37 strikes) across his four innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits, two walks and striking out three batters.

-Jake Bird was the first arm out of the bullpen in relief of Warren and he did not have it on this day. Entering this game, Bird had four scoreless appearances but he would give up his first run of spring on Saturday.

He walked the first batter before a single and a James Wood triple, pushed across two more Nationals runs. Bird did bounce back, striking out Crews and getting Abrams to fly out, but was pulled with two outs and Wood still on third base. Yerry De los Santos was tasked to get the final out and got Daylen Lile to fly out and keep the Nationals lead to 3-0.

Veteran right-hander Osvaldo Bido dominated in his inning of play, retiring the Nationals in order with a strikeout in the seventh.

Bird: 0.2 IP (20 pitches/10 strikes), two hits, two runs, one walk, one strikeout
De los Santos: 1.0 IP (13 pitches/10 strikes), one strikeout
Bido: 1.0 IP (11 pitches/5 strikes), one strikeout

-Lombard Jr. got the start at shortstop and was hitless for the second straight game. He went 0-for-2 with a walk and a caught stealing. His error also cost the Yankees a run early in this one.

-Spencer Jones was in center and batting cleanup. The slugger laced a single in his first at-bat and stole second, but was stranded. He took a six-pitch walk in his second at-bat and grounded out in his third AB before he was pulled.

-Jasson Dominguez was another Yankee to get a hit, going 1-for-3 with a strikeout. Across eight games, Dominguez is hitting .304 but is 2 for his last 8 with two strikeouts.

JC Escarra was the only other offensive name of note in this game, as the backup catcher finished the game 0-for-3 with a strikeout.
