Our weekly minor league report canvases the Yankees farm system, providing updates about the status of the teams in action and the organization's top prospects.

Notes: Top-30 prospect rankings (via MLBPipeline.com) are club based with overall MLB ranks, if applicable, in parenthesis. Prospects currently in the major leagues will not be covered here. Team records and statistics are through games played July 12, 2018, unless otherwise noted.

Top 10 prospects

No. 1 (No. 37) -- Estevan Florial (OF) -- High-A Tampa -- ETA 2020

Florial recently began a rehab assignment in the Gulf Coast League as part of his recovery from surgery on his right wrist. He has six hits in 14 at-bats over five games. His original return timeframe was mid-August, so seeing Florial on the field in mid-July is an exceptional sign and might provide him some extra reps that were believed to be lost. Florial was hitting .246 with a .353 on-base percentage and a .343 slugging percentage in 156 plate appearances with High-A Tampa before the surgery.

No. 2 (No. 39) -- Justus Sheffield (LHP) -- Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre -- ETA 2018

Sheffield continues to roll, hurling 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball with seven strikeouts. The start marked the third straight in which Sheffield allowed one run or fewer. Sheffield's ERA with SWB sits at 2.53 in 58 innings and was named to represent the Yankees in the Futures Game to be played over the All-Star Break.

No. 3 (No. 61) -- Albert Abreu (RHP) -- High-A Tampa -- ETA 2020

Abreu is on the seven-day disabled list with an undisclosed injury. It is the second DL stint for Abreu this season. Abreu has thrown just 48 1/3 innings this season, sporting a 4.28 ERA with batters hitting just .228 off him.

No. 4 -- Chance Adams (RHP) -- Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre -- ETA 2018

Adams allowed two runs on five hits and three walks in a 6 2/3-inning performance Thursday, lowering his ERA to 4.63 on the season. He's allowed just four earned runs in his last 15 2/3 innings, which might signal he is finally turning the corner to what has been a discouraging season.

No. 5 -- Luis Medina (RHP) -- Rookie Pulaski -- ETA 2021

Medina was touched up for four runs in just 1 2/3 innings in his latest start. His ERA ballooned to 6.75 in 9 1/3 innings for short-season Pulaski.

No. 6 -- Freicer Perez (RHP) -- High-A Tampa -- ETA 2020

Has been on the disabled list since early May. The time off the field has certainly curtailed any progression the Yankees hoped he would make this season. Perez's ERA sits at 7.20 across 25 innings (six starts) this season.

No. 7 -- Domingo Acevedo (RHP) -- Double-A Trenton -- ETA 2019

Acevedo is looking more and more comfortable after missing time earlier this season. Acevedo pitched six innings of one-run ball in his most recent start, allowing just four base runners while striking out five batters. Acevedo's ERA is a tidy 2.66 across 44 innings.

No. 8 -- Thairo Estrada (2B/SS) -- Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre -- ETA 2018

Estrada has been on the disabled list since early May with a back injury that might keep him off the field the rest of the season. Prior to the injury, Estrada was hitting just .152 in 33 at-bats with Scranton and .222 in 45 at-bats with High-A Tampa.

No. 9 -- Dillon Tate (RHP) -- Double-A Trenton -- ETA 2019

Tate has had a fine season, making good on the Yankees hunch to buy low when they traded for the former first-round pick two years ago. After a five-inning, one-run effort on July 5, Tate holds a 3.36 ERA and .218 batting average against in 82 2/3 innings for Trenton.

No. 10 -- Matt Sauer (RHP) -- Short-A Staten Island -- ETA 2021

Sauer, the Yankees' second-round pick in last season's draft, allowed one run in 6 1/3 innings in his last start. Sauer has thrown 21 innings so far for Staten Island to the tune of a 2.11 ERA while holding batters to a tiny .160 batting average.
