Marwin Gonzalez departed from Saturday's game between the Yankees and Brewers at American Family Field in Milwaukee after getting hit in the head on a throw back to the pitcher.

Gonzalez led off the third inning when Victor Caratini's post-pitch toss back to Brandon Woodruff inadvertently drilled the ninth-hitting first baseman's left side of his helmet.

He exited, and Aaron Hicks subsequently replaced him before striking out swinging.

"He's doing all right," Aaron Boone said of Gonzalez, who was checked for a concussion and cleared the protocol, after New York's 4-1 loss. "Took a pretty good shot, better than I thought -- he had a pretty good mark on his face when I went out there to check on him. So trainers just felt like he needed to get out of there at that point. He wanted to stay in, but I don't think it's anything that's going to put him down. But we'll see how we're doing throughout the night."

The Yankees placed Hicks in center field, moved Aaron Judge to right and Oswaldo Cabrera to first.

Gonzalez entered Saturday's game slashing .193/.268/329 with five home runs and 15 RBI in 77 games this season.

"I kind of blacked out for a second," Gonzalez said. "My legs were a little shaky, too. I was out for a minute, and that's the reason why the trainer didn't want me to keep going. I tried, but he didn't want to because he said it wasn't good symptoms."

"I think I'm going to be OK," Gonzalez added.
