The Yankees placed IF Josh Donaldson on the COVID-19 injured list prior to the team's series opener against the Orioles.

Manager Aaron Boone informed reporters prior to Monday's game of the move, which comes a day after the team also placed OF Joey Gallo and catcher Kyle Higashioka on the COVID IL.

Boone confirmed that Gallo and Higashioka have not tested positive and Donaldson has yet to take a test but all three had symptoms and are feeling too sick to play.

Miguel Andujar will take Donaldson's place on the roster.

Prior to the first game of the Yankees' doubleheader against the White Sox on Sunday, the team announced the recall of RHP David McKay from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. They then signed veteran catcher Rob Brantly to a Major League contract and selected him to the 26-man roster.

The Yankees also transferred catcher Ben Rortvedt to the 60-day injured list.

McKay last pitched in 2020 for the Detroit Tigers. Brantly played six games for the Yankees last season where he went 3-for-20.

There is no minimum days missed for players who go on the COVID IL so the team will take Gallo, Higashioka and Donaldson's stay day-to-day.
