Yankees shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa is dealing with hamstring soreness that took him out of Sunday's series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays.

"He has a little hamstring soreness, so I wasn't going to mess with it today," manager Aaron Boone said after the game. "He was going to be an 'emergency only' for me."

When Giancarlo Stanton walked in the ninth inning and Boone didn't pinch-run for him to potentially tie the game, that was an immediate red flag. But as Boone added, he believes IKF will be OK in the long run.

Boone added: "I think it's a minor thing. We'll see how he is tomorrow. He was good to go today. Outside of an emergency situation I was going to stay away from him today."

“Just some hamstring tightness, it just tightened up on me a little bit, it was a little crampy, so better to take care of it now after getting the two wins of the series and figured going into Tampa playing on turf, it was best to rest today,” Kiner-Falefa said via the Daily News. “So I had a full rest day today.”

Boone elaborated that IKF has been sore the last couple of days, and wouldn't guarantee he'd be in the lineup Monday when the Yankees start their series against the Tampa Bay Rays, but the shortstop has experienced this type of ailment before and is confident he can get back on the field.

“In 2020 I felt something similar when I was with Texas after the first game of the season, sat one game completely off, and then played every game the rest of the season,” Kiner-Falefa said. “So I told them that that had happened before, the training staff, and that’s kind of how we went about it. Take a day and make sure I do everything possible to get it going and hopefully from tomorrow on I am good to go.”

In 61 games this season, Kiner-Falefa is hitting .273 with 18 RBI.
