Yankees relief corps getting healthier

The Yankees have had a few relievers go down with injuries, even before the season started, but it seems some are close to returning to the team.

Scott Effross is "getting close," according to Boone and could possibly be back with the Yankees at the end of the month.

Effross missed the 2023 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery and had a setback when he suffered a back injury over the offseason.

The right-hander was sent on a rehab assignment with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last month and in five appearances has pitched to a 6.75 ERA.

Lou Trivino (elbow) is throwing off a mound and could face batters soon. Trivino is returning from Tommy John surgery.

Nick Burdi had a setback throwing live batting practice and is ramping back up. He'll be back throwing on a mound Friday. He was placed on the IL on May 24 with right hip inflammation and was transferred to the 60-day IL in late June.

Ian Hamilton started his throwing program a couple of days ago. He was placed on the IL on June 17 with a right lat strain.

Update on the non-pitchers

Anthony Rizzo is still seemingly a ways away from rejoining the team. Boone said that the first baseman was doing some weight room work but is "still pretty restricted" following his forearm fracture.

Rizzo was placed on the 60-day IL on June 19 and is not eligible to return until August.

In 70 games this season, Rizzo is slashing .223/.289/.341 with eight home runs and 28 RBI.
