Yankees SS Gleyber Torres was simply running to first base to beat out a ground ball when he stumbled and immediately winced in pain. An MRI would reveal Grade 1 hamstring and quad strains, making Torres one of the latest victims to a very crowded Yankees injured list.

But that was on Friday when Torres' results were announced by the team. Since then, Torres says he feels much better.

"I just felt pain the first day, but yesterday and today I feel really well," he told reporters via Zoom. "(I was) on the field a couple hours ago and just ran a little bit, not 100 percent, like 50. It was a great day. I did many things in the weight room, gym, and I'm getting better. I don't feel any pain right now, it's just normal and just getting ready. Getting strong a little bit and try to get ready for when I come back to play."

Though Torres might feel that way, he must wait out his 10 days on the IL before he returns to the lineup.

Manager Aaron Boone said that Tyler Wade and Thairo Estrada will continue to work up the middle for the Yanks in the infield, with DJ LeMahieu also on the IL with a sprained left thumb. Also, there's a possibility that Gio Urshela could serve as a backup shortstop if Boone needs to use him there.

Luckily for the Yankees, Aaron Judge should be good to go on Tuesday when play resumes for the Bombers. So that would be one player off the IL. Still, the likes of Torres, LeMahieu, Giancarlo Stanton, James Paxton, Kyle Higashioka, Zack Britton and Luis Avilan also remain on the list.

But, if all continues to go well for Torres, he could be off very soon, too.
