After suffering a knee injury during his rehab for an injured oblique, Yankees catcher Ben Rortvedt underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Tuesday, the team announced.
The surgery, which was a partial meniscectomy or "meniscus clean-up," went as expected and was performed by Yankees head team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
Rortvedt should begin playing in games in six-to-eight weeks if his recovery goes as planned.
The 24-year-old acquired from the Minnesota Twins in the deal that also brought Josh Donaldson and Isiah Kiner-Falefa has yet to appear in a game for the Yanks.
Last season with the Twins, Rortvedt -- who is known more for his glove than his bat -- appeared in 39 games, hitting .169 with three home runs while striking out 29 times.
