Who is starting for the Yankees?
LHP J.A. Happ (10-7, 5.40 ERA) looks to get the Yankees back on track after Domingo German (16-3, 4.15 ERA) surrendered five runs on eight hits in 5.1 innings of Tuesday's loss, the RHP's first since June 7's 5-2 loss to the Indians. Happ has gone at least five innings in each of his past four starts, but with mixed results, going 2-2 with a 6.23 ERA over 21.2 innings. He got the win in last Wednesday's 6-5 victory against the Baltimore Orioles, lasting 5.0 innings with two runs on six hits and six strikeouts to three walks. Happ has had success against the Athletics, though, sporting a 4-1 record and 3.47 ERA in 11 games (nine starts).
Who is starting for the Athletics?
RHP Mike Fiers (11-3, 3.46) has delivered all season for the Athletics, who have won each of his past five starts. In those outings, he recorded two victories and three no-decisions, going 32.1 innings with a 2.78 ERA. Fiers' latest start, though, ended with mixed numbers. In last Thursday's 7-6 win over the Houston Astros, he went 6.0 innings with five strikeouts to one walk while scattering six hits, but four of those went for home runs. His previous start Aug. 9 at the Chicago White Sox went more ideal, tossing 7.0 scoreless innings with three hits and a season-high eight strikeouts. Fiers, who notbaly no-hit the Cincinnati Reds in May 7's 2-0 win, has not lost since May 1's 7-3 defeat at the Boston Red Sox -- going 9-0 since then.
Upcoming schedule
The Yankees complete their three-game series with the Athletics on Thursday at 9:07 p.m. RHP Masahiro Tanaka (9-6, 4.56 ERA) faces RHP Tanner Roark (7-8, 4.01 ERA).
