The Yankees just continue to add right-handed pitchers as undrafted free agents, with Tulane's Connor Pellerin the latest signee at $20,000.
The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder was playing in his junior season before it was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic. He owned a 2.25 ERA over six games.
Pellerin had a rough sophomore season, with a very high 8.44 ERA over 21 appearances (26.2 innings). He had just about as many strikeouts (38) as he did walks (31), and he allowed 25 earned runs.
But with a mid-90s fastball and a great slider, according to scouts, Pellerin has the opportunity to turn things around with the right guidance. That's what the Yankees probably hope will happen, as he will only be turning 21 next month and has room to grow.
Pellerin was also at No. 360 on Baseball America's Top 500 MLB Draft prospects for this year.
The other pitchers signed by the Yanks were Carson Coleman (Kentucky), Ocean Gabonia (Everett JC - Washington), Trevor Holloway (Central Florida), and Jarod Lessar (BYU).
Teams are allowed to sign as many undrafted free agents as they want due to the modified MLB Draft rules this year. With only five rounds taking place, every team can sign a UFA for $20,000.
