Aaron Hicks underwent successful Tommy John surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, he posted Wednesday in an Instagram story.

Hicks provided an update on his health and looked ahead to a return for the 2020 season, which he said would be "bigger and better."

"Surgery went well," Hicks said. "Thanks for all the prayers and support."

At an end-of-season press conference Oct. 24, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said that the 30-year-old center fielder would have the procedure done in Los Angeles.

Hicks is set to miss the start of 2020 as he begins his recovery period of 8-10 months, which comes after what was initially diagnosed as a right elbow flexor strain.

He missed the final two months of the season with the injury, which sidelined him from Aug. 4 through Oct. 12, before his return came Oct. 13 in the ALCS Game 2 against the Houston Astros.

Hicks started in center field for the final four games of the eventual 4-2 series loss, getting two hits in 13 at-bats with a home run, three RBI and four walks to five strikeouts over 17 plate appearances.

In 59 regular-season games, Hicks slashed .235/.325/.443 with 12 home runs and 36 RBI.

Hicks enters 2020 in the second season of his seven-year, $70 million contract he signed Feb. 25.
