The Boston Red Sox received their penalty on Wednesday resulting from the investigation into their sign-stealing that occurred during the 2018 season.

That punishment was a slap on the wrist, with commissioner Rob Manfred explaining that what Boston did was not nearly as egregious as what the Houston Astros did in 2017, with Manfred saying the worst offenses took place only on "a small percentage of occasions."

The full penalty for the Red Sox was the loss of their second-round pick in the 2020 MLB Draft and the suspension of video replay operator J.T. Watkins for the 2020 season.

As far as manager Alex Cora, who parted ways with the Red Sox during the offseason after his involvement with the Astros sign-stealing fiasco came to light, he has been suspended for the 2020 season -- but only due to his transgressions while a member of Houston's coaching staff.

Shortly after the punishment came down, Yankees manager asked if it fit the crime.

"I don't know. Who knows exactly what went down," Boone told Meredith Marakovits of YES.. "I do trust that MLB thoroughly investigated and got to the bottom of things as best they can. And (I) feel like if that's what was come up with then so be it. It's time to move on, and I'm glad we're kind of through those situations.

As I've said all along -- and I do believe this -- hopefully just as a sport, we'll be better moving forward knowing that you mess around, they're coming for ya. And I think that's a good thing."

Many Yankees players -- feeling they had been robbed of a chance at a World Series in 2017 -- had scathing responses when the Astros received their punishments, but there hasn't been much of a reaction to the Red Sox punishment.
