As the Yankees enter the offseason, some may take some time away from the game to reflect on the tough ending to what was an overall stellar season. Others will jump right into preparing for the 2020 season.

But for 1B Greg Bird, he'll be jumping right back on to the field.

Bird will be playing in the Dominican Winter League for Gigantes del Cibao, who announced their signing via Twitter on Tuesday.

Bird was diagnosed with a plantar fascia tear after playing in just 10 games at the start of the season. He has been recovering and rehabbing ever since, something he has unfortunately been used to over his career thus far. The longest the 26-year-old has made it through the regular season is 82 games, which has forced the Yankees to find other options at first base.

But he has been doing baseball activities as of the end of August, and is ready to get back between the white lines to see just how healthy he is. The Yankees will certainly it pans out, as they've shown faith in his powerful lefty swing for years now through his injury history.

Bird is arbitration eligible for the next two years before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2022. With Luke Voit still under contract and the emergence of DJ LeMahieu this season, Bird has serious competition at first heading into Spring Training.

The Dominican Winter League should give him some good reps to prepare for that position battle come February.
