"Wasted Wrestling Experiment."

That's what John Cena's heel persona, the "Doctor of Thuganomics," called Elias after storming down to the ring at WrestleMania 35 on Sunday night.

While that diss was incredibly sick, its irony struck a chord. After wasting its fans' time with countless failed experiments, leading to some of its lowest ratings in recent history, WWE decided to go all-out for its sellout crowd at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands and give the people precisely what they wanted.

It'd be remiss not to mention that Elias is actually one of the experiments that has worked for WWE during this stretch, but the fact remains that the company has killed several loveable characters only to push ones whom fans didn't care for.

Jinder Mahal held the WWE Championship for an extended stretch, so many people beleived the U.S. Championship lost all meaning and Raw's championship only showed up occasionally around the waist of its part-time champion, Brock Lesnar.

Sunday, WWE Creative actually followed through on their promise in late-2018 to bring fans more of what they've been asking. Nearly every face won, including Kofi Kingston and Becky Lynch, whose losses would have led to a full revolt.

Cena finally turned heel (sort of) by reviving the character who made him such a magnetic figure in the first place, something that fans have long clamored for, and Finn Balor finally entered once again as his Demon persona.

Creative didn't have to rely on cameo appearances to drive the positive energy; it was abundant. The wrestling and storytelling spoke for themselves, and the legends who showed up merely added icing on the cake. Hulk Hogan's appearance at the beginning of the show was a distant memory by the night's end.

Aside from a plea from some fans in the lower bowl for blinding lights to be turned off, and a short "CM Punk" chant during the Women's Tag Team Championship match, fans were quite into everything happening. There was running around and hi-fiving when Kingston was crowned the new WWE Champion.

The fact that this simply sounds like a recap tells you everything you need to know about this show compared to the last few WrestleManias, where it was difficult to list out the good. Those shows had ended in boos thanks to Roman Reigns and matches dragged on and left fans bored, chanting recklessly about anything.

Though this show was over in five hours, it hardly felt like a drag with Triple H and Batista spiking DDTs and taking some wild bumps in a match between aged wrestlers which normally would have been seen as a show-killer.

There will surely be more twists down the road and hated characters getting big pushes because they're beloved backstage. There will be hometown losses and there will be more part-time champions. It seems like there will be less of the latter, though, and in the short-term we may not see much of it at all.

Kofi Kingston is finally WWE Champion, Becky Lynch is the double-champ, and a record 82,265 pleased fans are sleeping happily, having been given umpteen reasons to cheer loudly.
