The Giants are still in a holding pattern when it comes to Saquon Barkley's availability for next Sunday's game against the Cardinals. Needing some depth at the running back position, the Giants on Friday signed four-year veteran Javorius "Buck" Allen.

Pat Shurmur gave a very noncommittal 'We'll see" answer on Friday regarding Barkley's status.

The team reportedly worked out three running backs on Friday, according to ESPN's Field Yates: CJ Anderson, Akeem Hunt, and Allen, with Allen ultimately inking a deal with the team.

A fourth-round pick of the Ravens in 2015 out of USC, Allen was a depth piece in Baltimore's backfield. Over his four seasons with the team, he appeared in 54 games, totaling 1,249 rushing yards on 340 carries, good for 3.7 yards-per-carry average. Allen has also been a competent pass catcher out of the backfield, hauling in 129 catches for 814 yards. He found the end zone 14 times as a Raven.

To make room on the roster for Allen, the Giants waived RB Jon Hilliman, who started against the Patriots on Thursday with both Barkley and Wayne Gallman sidelined. Hilliman had just 38 rushing yards on 11 carries.
