With Sam Darnold's status for Sunday still unknown, Jets' Luke Falk is preparing as if he'll play vs. Eagles

Second-year QB also explained what he learned from Patriots game

As the Jets prepare for their Week 5 matchup against the Eagles in Philadelphia, the good news for the team is that Sam Darnold was back on the field on Wednesday as a limited participant in practice.

The not-so-good news is that Darnold hasn't yet been cleared for contact following his mononucleosis diagnosis.

So for now, it appears as if Luke Falk could be set to make his second straight start for Gang Green, as Darnold's status for Sunday remains up in the air.

"The same approach, trying to learn the gameplan, prepare yourself to play and whatever the decision is, just move forward," Falk said on Wednesday.

"You've just got to lock in mentally. You've got to get the physical reps after practice with the guys and lock in mentally when (Darnold) is getting his reps with the ones. So, you've got to be ready to roll."

Falk took over for an injured Trevor Siemian during the Jets' Week 2 loss to Cleveland, and since stepping in, he's completed 68.1 percent of his passes for 296 yards, and though he hasn't thrown a touchdown pass, he's only thrown one interception.

In the 30-14 loss to the Patriots, Falk threw for just 98 yards, compiling a 47.2 passer rating. Still, the second-year QB says he can learn from the tough loss.

"Just playing those guys and playing in the NFL, you can't have mistakes," Falk said. "You've got to capitalize on opportunities and you've got to score some points early in the game. I think we missed some opportunities and there are some things to learn from. I also think there are some positives and some things to take away from that game."

If Darnold is unable to suit up on Sunday, it will be up to Falk to help the team find a way to capture their first win of the season.
