After losing to the Marlins in Miami on July 12 in their first game of the second half of the season, the Mets were 40-51 and facing an imminent sell-off at the trade deadline and the prospect of another losing season.
Since then, New York has gone 17-5 to move their playoff odds from close to non-existent to 32.7 percent, per FanGraphs. Those odds are better than two of the teams they're chasing -- the Phillies have 24.8 percent odds while the Brewers' odds are at 22.3 percent.
The Mets -- now 57-56 and 2.5 games back of the second Wild Card spot, have also seen their World Series odds go up a substantial amount.
They still have a long way to go to be considered legitimate World Series contenders, but the Mets' odds to win it (+2800) are better than all but 11 teams in baseball, per Bovada.
The Mets' +2800 odds are tied with the Rays, who are 65-49 and currently holding the second Wild Card spot in the American League.
The Phillies' odds (+2500) are slightly better than the Mets' odds, while the Nationals' odds are a bit better than the Phillies' (+2200).
