Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell tested positive for coronavirus last month following teammate Rudy Gobert testing positive -- the domino that led to the NBA suspending its season.
Now, The Athletic is citing one source who says the relationship between Mitchell and Gobert (who acted in a cavalier way regarding the virus before he tested positive) "doesn't appear salvageable."
However, Jazz teammate Joe Ingles doesn't seem too concerned.
"I'm confident our team is going to be totally fine," Ingles said, per The Athletic. "I heard Donovan's response (on GMA), or whatever it was, to that question, and a part of that is on Donovan and Rudy to sort out if he's frustrated with him or whatever. But I have no doubt when we go back to training, or when our season starts again, our team is going to be what we have been and what we are. … I'm confident our team will be completely fine. The chemistry will be fine."
In the event everything isn't fine and the Jazz decide to trade Mitchell instead of Gobert for some reason, could the Knicks pounce?
Sure.
And it can be argued that they'd be in solid position to do so given the amount of draft picks (both this season and in future seasons) they have at their disposal.
The Knicks also remain in strong shape when it comes to the salary cap, with nearly every player they brought in over the last year being on a short-term deal and/or on deals that are only guaranteed through the end of the 2020 season.
Mitchell, a 23-year-old New York native whose father works in the front office for the Mets, is set to become a restricted free agent after the 2021-22 season.
