There isn't much for MLB players to do while abiding by the league's restrictions due to coronavirus concerns. But Mets 1B Pete Alonso is trying to find a way to get his fellow big leaguers -- and the fans -- involved in some type of baseball.
The season might not be starting on time, but MLB The Show 20 is still hitting the stores on Tuesday. And Alonso is viewing that as the perfect opportunity to get some friendly competition going.
In his latest tweet, Alonso said if he gets 50,000 retweets he will download the new video game and challenge his teammates and others around the league. And the best part of all? He'll be streaming it for the fans to watch.
50k retweets and I'll download MLB The Show 20 and challenge teammates and other guys around the league. I'd figure out a way to stream as well!

It might not be the baseball we want right now, but hey, it's baseball nonetheless. And with Alonso's fun personality, it is bound to be must-watch streaming. Just imagine a heated battle between, say, Alonso and Noah Syndergaard facing each other as themselves in the game...
Every player shares Alonso's feelings of anxious anticipation and overall disappointment in the new season being suspended at the moment, and it doesn't help that MLB just pushed back their start date once again either.
But, in the meantime, curbing those feelings with some competition that the fans can enjoy as well is a solid move by the NL Rookie of the Year.
