The Yankees upgraded their rotation by trading for Mariners LHP James Paxton on Monday.
Though they gave up three prospects, including LHP Justus Sheffield, who was ranked No. 1 in the organization, many believe New York was the big winner in the trade.

This dovetails with what I've heard from a number of evaluators. Sheffield's upside, they believe, is mitigated by his ability to consistently throw strikes.

Erik Swanson, they believe, is a swingman type. He's 25. And Dom Thompson-Williams, an OF, is seen as an org type. https://t.co/TjdOIXeJxr
This feels light. Unless the M's are really high on Swanson (and there's reason to suspect he's a back end starter) this feels like a big win for Cashman. https://t.co/WRIwKtSjHN

That seems like the proper price tag for a deal with this. Clear headliner in Sheffield, couple of intriguing pieces. Mariners get a big league ready young guy and Yankees get legit rotation help. https://t.co/37JWQEYPH7

Honestly, it really looks like #Yankees got better of the #Mariners, as Brian Cashman does it again, folks. It didn't seem like NYY was too high on Justus Sheffield. DTW had a solid year with Tampa & SI. Swanson broke out in '18, would've needed to been added to 40. https://t.co/PywvX3NCBR

Love that trade for the Yankees...From the Mariners standpoint, I would have liked to have seen a second Top 10 Yankees prospect in the deal (although Swanson didn't miss their 10 by much).
