The Jets held off the banged-up Colts for a 42-34 win on Sunday to improve to 3-3 on the season. Let's highlight three of the best performances, along with three players who were disappointments.

Winners

QB Sam Darnold

The Colts have been a team that hasn't given up a lot of big plays so far this season, but Darnold was always likely to get opportunities to keep the chains moving if he was patient enough to take what the defense gave him.

Having not completed more than 50 percent of his passes in a game since Week 2, Darnold was on point on Sunday, completing 80 percent of his 30 pass attempts for 280 yards and two scores. While he also had an interception on an ill-advised downfield throw in the first half, he brushed that off with a series of accurate passes that enabled the Jets offense to score nine times. WR Jermaine Kearse

Kearse has had a slow start to the season compared with last year, but with the Colts allowing plenty of opportunities to complete passes underneath, a big performance from a possession receiver like Kearse was exactly what the Jets needed.

He tied his career-high with nine catches for a team-high 94 yards on 10 targets. These included five first downs, three of which were third down conversions. He was particularly effective on slant routes, on which Darnold was hitting him accurately all day.

K Jason Myers

While there were several other key contributors on offense and defense, Myers was able to do something no Jets player -- including the Super Bowl III heroes that were on hand for halftime festivities -- has ever done. Myers made a franchise-record seven field goals. Overall, including extra points, Myers was 10-for-10 on the day and also chipped in with eight touchbacks. Myers also tied Wesley Walker's franchise record of 24 points scored in a game. To put that into context, it took the Jets until week seven to score 24 points as a team last year; a feat they achieved just four times all season.

Considering Myers was almost an afterthought when he was added to the roster late in the preseason, he's done a good job of establishing himself so far.

Losers

CB Parry Nickerson

With Buster Skrine out, Nickerson had to make his first career start and the Colts predictably went after the rookie all day, as he gave up several catches, although most of them were for short gains.

Nickerson was involved in all four of Andrew Luck's touchdown passes, as he missed a tackle on the receiver coming across the field on the last one after there had been a coverage breakdown on the other three. While he may not necessarily have been entirely at fault on all of those, the Colts definitely picked on Nickerson, who ended up with four tackles and a pass breakup.

C Spencer Long

For the second week in a row, Long had a rough game as the Jets were unable to enjoy the same success in the running game as they had the previous week.

Long gave up a couple of pressures and allowed a couple of plays to be blown up in the running game. He also had two penalties, as he was illegally downfield on a pass play to negate a 12-yard gain and got called for a holding penalty to negate an 8-yard run.

Long continues to have issues with his shotgun snaps, too. He had a couple more bad snaps this week, including one on 3rd-and-short that was low and bounced off Darnold's shoe-tops. Luckily, Isaiah Crowell was able to recover but the Jets still had to settle for a field goal.

S Terrence Brooks

Brooks has been a difference-maker on special teams this year, but he struggled when he was called into action on defense for the first time this season following Marcus Maye's hand injury. With Doug Middleton also having been limited during the week, Brooks was the next man up.

Playing in Maye's deep safety role, Brooks was held to two tackles, both down the field. He was also involved in two of the coverage breakdowns with Nickerson that led to touchdowns and was flagged for a face mask penalty late in the third quarter that set up a touchdown.

Having already overcome Maye's absence earlier in the year, it will be interesting to see who the Jets give the starting role to if Maye is going to miss more time with this new injury.
