Masahiro Tanaka had his first Spring Training start rained out on Tuesday and instead threw 30 pitches in a simulated game indoors.

It also meant the right-hander did not have to experience the new 20-second pitch clock, an idea Tanaka is against.

"As players, we have to go by the rules so we do that," he told reporters on Tuesday. "With that said, for me personally, I'm not in favor of that."

MLB is experimenting with the pitch clock in Spring Training in an effort to help speed up the pace of play and it could potentially become part of the regular season in the near future.

It should come as no surprise that Tanaka, 30, is not a fan of a 20-second pitch clock.

The Yankees' right-hander ranked 76th out of 78 pitchers who threw 150 innings or more last year at 26.1 seconds between pitches, per Fangraphs.

Only Justin Verlander of the Astros (26.3) and David Price of the Red Sox (26.7) took more time in between pitches last season.

"If it's implemented, it's implemented. We just go by the ruling, try to get a pitch in within those 20 seconds obviously," Tanaka said. "But, like I said, there's that time lag between a pitch, you're thinking about what to throw next, what the next pitch is going to be and I think the hitters are thinking about what's coming. There's that certain time that makes baseball fun."
