With five home runs in his last five games, Voit has created a little gap at the top, as he currently leads the league in that category with 19 on the season. The next closest are the Twins' Nelson Cruz, Angels' Mike Trout, and White Sox's Jose Abreu at 16.

"Pretty awesome," Voit said of edging Trout and Cruz the other night. "A lot of good company that's around you and it's a pretty cool feeling, but hey, there's still 12 games left that are really important. So worry about that."

Of course, this is an abbreviated season, one where there will be an asterisk in the record books. But Voit's production has been nothing short of exceptional for a Yankees team that hasn't been healthy throughout this shortened year. He's even battled his own injury, as you might see him hobbling around the bases at times with a foot ailment giving him some bother.

But if Voit continues leading the league in homers over the last 11 games of the season, he would be the first Yankee since Alex Rodriguez (54 in 2007) to accomplish that feat. Aaron Judge led the American League in 2017 with 52 dingers but a man by the name of Giancarlo Stanton was busy having an MVP season with 59 dingers that year, too.

Voit should be able to keep pace for the rest of the season, especially if he continues saying his swing is where it needs to be. About a month ago, we broke down whether or not Voit's early success was sustainable, focusing on advanced stats that showed it would be if he were keeping his launch angle and hard-hit rate up.

His launch angle at that time was 20.6, the highest in his career. It's gone down a bit, sitting at 15.7 now, but that's perfectly fine because his exit velocity is virtually the same (90.2 compared to 90.0).

His hard-hit rate has also dropped from exactly 50 percent to 42.9 percent. But, as we discussed back then, as long as his strikeout rate didn't go up compared to hard-hit rate, Voit would be fine. That number also went down from 28.9 percent to 23.2 percent.

Voit has also been putting himself in great counts to put that home run swing on pitches. His moonshot homer to left field on Wednesday night came on a fastball with a 2-0 count after laying off two good pitches. Voit is not only trusting his swing, but trusting his eye as well. His zone contact percentage, or the percent of pitches that he makes contact with in the strike zone, is a career-high 80.5 percent.

All signs point to Voit continuing his tear, but there is some tough competition behind him. Luckily for Voit, the Yankees have an easier schedule than most to finish the season (Boston Red Sox, Blue Jays and Miami Marlins), and he should be able to exploit those matchups heading into the postseason.
