Following the scouting combine and the first wave of free agency, the next phase of the offseason is upon us with the Pro Day schedule well underway. This will give the Jets' scouts and coaches an opportunity to see many of this year's top draft prospects work out, and we should also start to hear which players will be working out for or conducting an official visit with the team.

Let's evaluate some of the names that have been connected to the Jets so far, and assess where in the draft the Jets might look to target them:

OLB Josh Allen, Kentucky

Despite their stated desire to move down from the third pick of the draft, the Jets will still familiarize themselves with the top prospects. This will be a good opportunity for a potential top-three pick to blow them away, and convince them that they're the kind of blue-chip prospect the Jets can't afford to pass on.

Allen will get the first shot, as ESPN's Rich Cimini reported he was scheduled to visit the Jets sometime this week. After an impressive 2018 season that saw him rack up 17 sacks, he also had an impressive workout at the combine.

With his pass-rushing ability, Allen would fill arguably the Jets' biggest need, although they will probably schedule workouts with Nick Bosa and Quinnen Williams as well, and either one could be preferred to Allen if also on the board after the first two picks.

DE Rashan Gary, Michigan

Gary is a player who some experts have mocked to the Jets with the third pick, but the consensus seems to be that he's likely to go later than that, despite some impressive numbers in his combine workout. The Jets have reportedly already met with Gary.

Unlike Allen, Gary's 2018 season wasn't all that impressive, as he only managed 3.5 sacks in nine games. However, many draft experts believe he has tremendous potential. With his blend of size, athleticism and versatility, Gary could thrive in the right system, but scouts are divided as to what his ideal NFL position might be.

The Jets are smart to keep tabs on Gary because if they decide to trade down, he could be an option later in the first round.

DL Ed Oliver, Houston

Oliver was previously projected as a potential top-five pick, but his stock fell off somewhat after he missed several games through injury last year. Some experts feel he was miscast at the nose tackle position at Houston, and that his statistical production would've been more impressive if he lined up elsewhere. At his Pro Day workout earlier this week, Oliver showcased that he has the athleticism to line up elsewhere, as he posted a spectacular set of workout numbers.

Like Gary, it's unsure how Oliver will be used at the pro level, but his potential seems limitless. However, he again doesn't seem likely to be in play with the third pick, so the Jets are probably evaluating him as a potential option in a trade-down scenario.

C/G Erik McCoy, Texas A&M

McCoy, a three-year starter with good technique, reportedly worked out for the Jets at College Station. Center remains one of the team's biggest needs, so they'd be thrilled if McCoy or one of the other top center prospects was to fall to them in the third round. They might even target a player like McCoy in the second round if they can obtain another pick in a trade-back scenario.

CB Amani Oruwariye, Penn State

Cornerback is another Jets need, so they will take a long look at Oruwariye -- a good athlete who intercepted eight passes over the past two years. At his Pro Day last week, Oruwariye told the media he'd be visiting the Jets, which will have the added bonus of counting as a local visit so it won't eat into the team's annual limit of 30 official visits. OL Yodny Cajuste, West Virginia

Manish Mehta from the Daily News reported on Friday that the Jets intend to bring Cajuste in for a visit, despite the fact he was revealed to have just undergone surgery to repair a torn quad muscle. This is expected to keep him out of action for three months.

At the start of the season, Cajuste was regarded as a potential first-round pick, but if he falls to the third round, he could be an attractive option for the Jets. Cajuste looks talented in pass protection, so the Jets could see him as a potential heir to Kelvin Beachum as the starting left tackle, and won't be deterred by his injury issues because they can afford to bring him along slowly.
