With an 0-1 count and one out in the first inning, Pete Alonso made history.
He blasted a home run to left field off of Braves starter Dallas Keuchel to tie the MLB record for home runs by a rookie in a single season.
Yankees' slugger Aaron Judge had previously held the record, hitting 52 homers in 2017.
On Aug. 27, Alonso hit his 42nd homer, surpassing the Mets' all-time single-season record, which had been held by both Todd Hundley (1996) and Carlos Beltran (2006).
Alonso will have two more games after Friday night's contest to hit HR No. 53 and set a new rookie record.
