UConn women’s basketball guard Ashlynn Shade has been named the Big East Freshman of the Week for the second time this season, the conference announced on Friday afternoon.

Shade led the Huskies with an average of 21 points while shooting a stellar 68 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the arc across a pair of commanding wins over Butler and Toronto Metro this week.

The first-year point guard put up a personal best 22 points and four assists in the 88-62 victory over Butler. She added 20 more points a few days later, finishing a terrific 8-of-10 from the field against TMU.

After a bit of a slow start to her collegiate career, she seems to be rolling averaging 9.3 points and 1.7 rebounds while shooting 53 percent from the field and 37 percent from behind the arc over her first 11 games (six starts) with the school.

Shade is the sixth UConn rookie to take home Freshman of the Week honors over the first seven weeks of the season.

Her and the Huskies have a few days off before they look to keep the momentum rolling in a huge matchup to open conference play against the 18th-ranked Marquette Golden Eagles on New Years Eve.
