Tylor Megill was on a hard pitch count of 55 - he threw 53 with Double-A Binghamton on Sunday in his first rehab start.
Megill is working his way back from bicep tendinitis, and Sunday was a step in the right direction.
The big righty tossed 3.2 innings of two-run ball, striking out five in the process. But most importantly, the arm's all good at the moment.
“I feel ready to go," Megill told reporters upstate, admitting it was "unfortunate" his pitch count is limited. "Arm feels great, body feels good, velo’s up. Right now, feeling good.”
Megill reached 98 mph on the radar gun, which is a good sign considering that’s just about where he’s topped out this season. Velocity isn't exactly a true factor into an injury (or non-injury), but Sunday was about working on mechanics and feeling normal.
“Just [make sure I am] feeling better, and then working the glove side. Move over on the right side of the rubber and really trying to drill the glove side and let my slider play out. Overall, just feeling it, getting back into pitching… Feels good, everything’s feeling natural right now.”
Megill said he wasn't sure where his next start would be, but he did make it seem like he would have one more rehab outing, adding he has "no pain."
His ERA is at in inflated 4.41 for the Mets right now, but in his last outing before landing on the IL, he allowed eight earned in 1.1 innings. In his first six games, the Opening Day starter owned a 2.43 ERA.
