Tommy Hunter has been informed that he will be on the Mets' Opening Day roster, according to a report Saturday by MLB.com's Anthony DiComo.
The 36-year-old right-handed reliever has allowed four hits while striking out two and walking none over seven innings in spring training with New York.
The Mets signed Hunter, who is entering his 16th MLB season, Dec. 6 on a minor league contract after he made 18 appearances for New York during the 2022 season.
In 22 1/3 innings, Hunter scattered eight runs (six earned) on 21 hits (four home runs) with 22 strikeouts to six walks.
Hunter initially spent four games of the 2021 season with the Mets. He yielded four hits in eight scoreless innings before New York traded him and catcher Matthew Dyer July 23, 2021, to the Tampa Bay Rays for left-handed starter Rich Hill.
Hunter is 56-46 with a 4.00 ERA, 1.237 WHIP and 6.2 K/9 since entering MLB in 2008 with the Texas Rangers.
