Giants tight ends coach Lunda Wells, whose status with the team was up in the air with new head coach Joe Judge still assembling his staff, is leaving to become the tight ends coach for the Cowboys, SNY's Ralph Vacchiano reported Wednesday.
The 36-year-old Wells had been with the Giants since 2012.
His first role with the Giants was as an offensive assistant in 2012. He then served as their assistant offensive line coach from 2013-2017 before becoming tight ends coach prior to the 2018 season.
Under Wells' tutelage, Kaden Smith -- whom the Giants selected in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft -- started to come into his own this past season.
From Week 12 against the Bears through the end of the season, the 22-year-old Smith (who was getting lots of playing time with Evan Engram injured) had 30 catches for 267 yards and three touchdowns.
The Giants will now go about finding a replacement for Wells.
The team has already locked in Patrick Graham as defensive coordinator, Jerry Schuplinski as quarterbacks coach, and Freddie Roach as defensive line coach.
The search for the next offensive coordinator is ongoing.
