Jets head coach Adam Gase entering another week coming off a win at home, searching for his team's first win streak of the season. They have a good chance to make that happen against the lowly Redskins, whose only win this season came against the Dolphins.

During his daily presser before practice, Gase was brought to the attention of some of his players saying this franchise as had a hard time sustaining success, though. Just when it looks like they've turned the corner with a big win, they end up taking a loss the next week to counteract it.

That's why Gase is determined to focus solely on this week, and not have the win in the back of his mind. For him, the past week -- win or loss -- doesn't matter.

"The biggest thing that we talk about is just focusing on this week," he said. "What happened last week, you have to learn from it, but doesn't mean anything for you the next week. All your focus has to be on this game coming up because I always look at it as you win the last one but lose the next one, nobody cares. Who remembers the last one?"

Le'Veon Bell out with illness

Gase began his injury report with Bell being out due to an illness. We've heard that before with a Jets star player, so one reporter had to ask whether or not it was mono that was keeping him out.

Gase's simple response: "I hope not."

Bell was out in the city on Tuesday doing a promotion with Pepsi, so the illness must have affected him last night or this morning.

Other than him, Brandon Copeland wouldn't be practicing with a hip injury, Darryl Roberts continues to rehab his calf strain, and Matthias Farley won't be practicing as well. Players like Robby Anderson, Ryan Kalil, and Kelvin Beachum were among the limited participants as well.

Bless Austin impressing his head coach

The Rutgers product that went in the sixth round to the Jets in this year's NFL Draft finally saw game action for the first time in his career on Sunday. He played in 68 percent of the Jets' defensive snaps, and had three solo tackles.

Heading into the new week with the team's starting corners still out (Trumaine Johnson is on the IR to go along with Roberts' injury), Austin could have an opportunity to get his first NFL start. While Gase said defensive coordinator Gregg Williams will "try to put thing together and kinda see who's available," he praised Austin's practice reps that have definitely caught his eye.

"He does not lack confidence. I look at that as a valuable trait to have as a corner because if you lose out on a route, he's coming back the next one. That's one of my favorite things about him. Like I said, he was giving us problems in scout team."

Big bounce back for Sam Darnold

Darnold didn't have as flashy a statline as his New York counterpart in Daniel Jones, but he did everything he needed to in getting enough points for the victory.

He went 19-for-30 for 230 yards, one touchdown and most importantly, no turnovers. That right there was a reset in Gase's mind moving forward.

"I think he did a good job of resetting and just focusing on that game, what he had to do," he said about Darnold. "You could tell -- he talked about it after the game of playing clean. You know, not turning the ball over, throwing the ball away when he needs to."

Gase dismisses Colin Kaepernick talk

Kaepernick will be hosting an open workout for NFL teams in Atlanta this week, and it will certainly be a talking point to see if he impresses enough to make his return to the league. However, Gase wouldn't reveal if the Jets will be in attendance.

"I'm worried about this week. That's my job," he said. "That's a question for the personnel guys."
