The Mets were said, by multiple league executives on Monday afternoon, to be getting closer to naming a general manager.

Multiple sources said that former Yankees executive and Los Angeles Angels GM Billy Eppler was a strong candidate. The Mets increased their background work on Eppler late last week.

There has been no traction in recent days with former Washington Nationals assistant GM Adam Cromie, though he was not officially out of the mix as of midday Monday.

Multiple Mets officials either declined comment or did not respond to requests for comment.
