According to SNY's Ralph Vacchiano, the Giants "are setting their sights on an offensive tackle" with their first-round choice in the 2020 NFL Draft.

With just two days until GM Dave Gettleman is set to lead his third draft for Big Blue, the speculation of what he will decide to do at No. 4 overall continues to heat up. The consensus is split between an offensive tackle -- one of the "Big Four" of Tristan Wirfs, Jedrick Wills, Andrew Thomas, and Mekhi Becton -- or a versatile linebacker in Isaiah Simmons

But Vacchiano's reporting here would diminish the Simmons argument, and the other big news from his Tuesday report adds more context to that notion.

His sources are hearing that Gettleman's preference would be to trade down in the first round, and conversations with teams to put together the foundation for potential trades has already begun. If the Giants were to trade down, losing out on Simmons is a possibility while getting one of those tackles is still in the cards.

Of course, if the Giants were to trade with, say, the Los Angeles Chargers at No. 6, Simmons could still be on the board there. The further down the draft board they go, the less likely Simmons is there.

After analyzing these top tackles for months, experts have graded them closely to each other. So trading down to acquire more draft capital -- the Giants have 10 picks but only three in the first two days -- and getting a tackle to shore up the offensive line would be a good deal for Gettleman.

It is worth noting that the Lions are also open for business at No. 3 overall. Teams may be wary to strike a deal with the Giants before knowing what Detroit's intentions are at that pick.

At the end of the day, it'll come down to what Gettleman wants to do in the draft. He could just be exploring all options, and putting it out there that he wants to trade down to cause a smokescreen -- something he's never done as an NFL GM. But this time, it doesn't look that way because it makes too much sense to trade back if he wants to draft a tackle.

And adding a "Hog Mollie" seems to be his desire on Thursday night.
