The Giants cut veteran cornerback Janoris Jenkins on Friday, after he had an inappropriate Twitter exchange with a fan during the week and then gave an insincere apology.

However, according to sources around the league from SNY's Ralph Vacchiano, many people believe that Jenkins will be picked up by a playoff contender for the final two games of the season.

Since Jenkins was waived/injured, he would go to the Giants' injured reserve list if he clears waivers on Monday. The Giants could waive him off the list, meaning he would go on waivers a second time from Monday to Tuesday. It's unclear if he'll be claimed off waivers on Monday or signed after he's cleared, though, the feeling is a team will will want him.

Multiple sources believe the Kansas City Chiefs are the team to watch for Jenkins to join, due to his relationship with defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.

Spagnuolo was the Giants defensive coordinator from 2015 to 2017 and served as the team's interim head coach in 2017 when Ben McAdoo was fired on Dec. 4, 2017. While Jenkins signed a five-year, $62.5 million contract with the Giants on March 9, 2016 after playing with the St. Louis Rams from 2012 to 2015.

By cutting Jenkins, the Giants cleared $11.25 million off their 2020 salary cap, and the team was planing on releasing the 31-year-old in February anyway, according to Vacchiano.
